The new TX2Z just got released as the 'first multi-touch' notebook PC. Those claims are debatable, but for sure there is nothing in this price range.

"multitouch" : you can use more than one finger (e.g., index and thumb) at the same time.

Everytime I think I want one of these I get to the battery and even with the 8-cell big ass a brick battery the quoted battery life is up to 2 hours and 15 minutes.

I'd stay away for now. The multi-touch has a delay to it.

I just want the reign of Windows Vista to end. It almost seems like the struggles with Windows ME. What a horrible effort on part of MS.

Didn't seem like there was a lot of delay.

TX2Z is definitely NOT the first multitouch notebook PC, might be the first Wacom compabile multitouch.

The Dell Xt is a multitouch notbook PC released last year, lightweight and better build but expensive and not Wacom compatible.

Windows Vista doesn't support multitouch natively until Windows 7. So, it depends on HP, Wacom and third parties support to use multitouch.

I have the TX2500Z, pretty much the same spec without multitouch. It runs super hot in full performance mode and drain battery fast.

I can't get it, how does this work? I followed the CashBack link to HP, but the tx2z is listed at more than $1,000; after my configs and warranty it was 1,300. Also, what is EPP/APP?

I will definitely make the purchase, as I just sent my misbehaving tx2500 back when I heard about this new model. However, I don't want to pay 1300, so please help!

EDIT: okay, I signed up for APP and my finished product is 1200 after rebates. How do I get it to be less than a thousand like the op has?

EDIT: EPP dropped my laptop price to 1,200, insurance is another 100+something dollars on top of that. Still nowhere near what the op has.

FINAL EDIT: Got it! Basically, I wasn't clicking the microsoft live Cash Back (I kept clicking the automatic link that pops up when you type CashBack, duh), it goes for 25% off. Now I can get the PC alone for the op's price, and even after chucking in insurance it is still under 1000 (and comes with a free printer). thanks guys!

I'm going to wait for the end of this month though to see if there's any big deals going. Does anybody know when this 25% CashBack expires? I want to apply it on, say, the 29th, maybe Dec 1st.

Is this still active? I'm trying to follow the steps from above and am not sure what I'm missing. The cost is still at around $1200 when I check out.

This deal is OLD and DEAD. No 25% CashBack anymore. It's 5% now through live search.

Just go to live.com, select CashBack and then select HP, it will show 5% OFF. EPP/APP is their Employee Purchase Program/ Academic Purchase Program for employees, businesses, and education. If you are student you can sign up for the APP pretty easily and get up to 10-15% from there. If you don't need one now, just wait around or if you really need one now, you can jump on the Dell outlet deal (15% off some pretty good specs refurb).
