This is pretty much like the older 760 model, but with free lifetime FM traffic (a $60 value): Be sure you use the "meijerhalf" promo code to get the price down to what I said. |

I might have gotten it if they didnt charge me tax. |
FYI- Code "meijerhalf" is for 1/2 off shipping. You must be logged into your meijer account for the code to work. Once tax is added in to the price for me in Ohio, the shipped price is $263.98. But if you don't have a Meijer in your state, there might not be any tax. And for comparison's sake, the price for this unit at Amazon is $278.46. EDIT: According to trainaholic's post above mine, it looks like everyone gets taxed, whether they have a Meijer in their state or not. Meijer is only located in MI, OH, KY, IN, and IL. |

I do agree that tax would probably kill this deal. |
Create an account and use the "thanks10" code (instead of the one above -- since you can only use one per order) and get $10 off instead. That brought my total to $241.85 shipped. |
is there a better place than the Amazon website to compare the different garmin gps's? I am looking for differences between the 760 and this? |
squish said:is there a better place than the Amazon website to compare the different garmin gps's? I am looking for differences between the 760 and this? The Garmin website has a compare feature. The 760 has multi-point routing, MP3 player, and FM transmitter features that the 265WT lacks, but the 265WT model is the latest generation from Garmin and has the following new features: |
what's your opinion about Garmin 255W (Text speech)and Garmin 265 WT? Which one you prefer best? |
Considering this is a 2xx, but comes with TTS, things are a little more confusing now, since the 2xx series has always been without TTS. Unless all newer models will have TTS now, with no 'value' model without TTS, then it makes sense. Plus the 2x5 series has some other newer design features that the 750/760 doesn't, at the same price (or less). And I personally never used the FM xmitter or MP3 player in my 750 anyway. I just noticed the 265WT (& other 2x5 models) today, but I've been eyeing the 755T for awhile, which has Lane Guidance and 3D Lane Assist Junction View, that (thinking back on my driving experiences) I think would be extremely helpful, but unfortunately the 265WT doesn't have. 7x5T also has 3-D building view, which the 265WT does not. Also, any 7xx series also has these features, which the 265WT does not: And along with the 7xx features, the 755T also has (the 265WT has these too): So I'm not sure the 755T is 333Mhz, nor does it have the 265WT's 3D shaded terrain (which I guess I don't need since I don't hike). But the 755T is $393 right now at Amazon.

Slickone said:*And the garmin page says the 755T has "faster screen redraws". Faster than what? Does that mean it has the new 333Mhz CPU like the 265WT? Or just that they've changed the way it re-draws?From this review of the 265WT (see the Conclusions on the last page): |

As for traffic reports being unreliable, yeah, they're less than perfect. Some locations are better than others, but virtually all locations feature traffic reports that are inaccurate, or so delayed as to be worthless, at least some percentage of the time. That's just the nature of real-time traffic reporting, circa 2008. The situation will doubtless improve over the next few years, but even though it's not yet perfect, it can still be very useful. Sort of how GPS navigation itself isn't perfect everywhere and in all situations, but that doesn't mean it's worthless. |

Slickone said:Thanks. Wow, so the 7x5's are even faster than the 265T. Wonder what CPU the 7x5 has. Also since they say the 265T is faster than the 6xx, I wonder if that means faster than the 7x0 too.According to this: I suspect the 760 uses the same processor as the 750. |
I own the 255W for 2 months now. It is awesome. I haven't used the 3D terrain, Geonavigation, and google/mapquest upload features yet and I can't say that I miss them. The default voice is decent and clear. Though I've to turn down my radio manually to avoid missing the instructions. I read up on the different specs and all the 2x0 models (such as 200, 260) have no TTS while the 2x5 has it. TTS helps you be sure you're turning into the correct street-you hear the street name and match with what you see on the road. I can't verify that the Hotfix feature really cuts the time it takes to lock on to satellite. My 255W usually takes at least 3+ mins when 1st turned on. The only way to know if Hotfix is really superior is to have 2 diff models run side by side. I suspect the difference is small. |
