*Newegg* Slingbox Pro-HD

Lowest I've seen the Slingbox Pro-HD if you've been wanting one for your TiVo HD, etc.

Cheers,

I see this got ATSC tuner, so this works with OTA signal?

i wonder what kind of datarate is required for this HD version? I have the classic slingbox and within the LAN is using up to 400K/s already.

This is great and all, but where are all of the OTA ATSC HD-DVRs? I just want to be able to record HD OTA without a Satellite, Cable, or PC. Anyone know if such a device exists?

Not trying to thread crap. I expect the price to drop real soon. I think Slingbox missed target this time.

Very few households in US has 1.5+Mbps to upstream HD content. Besides 1.5Mbps for HD is still crap. If I want to watch TV over the internet, I would stick with SD at 480p (even 480i). On the LAN, I would go with Vista Media Center with extenders. HDHomeRun + Media Center PC can be had for less than $400.

On the LAN I get (wireless) betwee 6000 and 9000 kbps. My upstream connection is 2mbps and if I stream from work I get approx 1500-1700kbps and it is still a pretty nice HD image - not as sharp as on the local LAN, but not bad.

One thing I have noticed is that even the SD stuff on this looks better than the previous versions of the slingbox as I believe this one uses h.264 encoding, so lower bandwidths still show good quality. It does come at performance cost however as my dual core laptop can easily use 50-60% of the CPU while streaming HD wirelessly.

This is a great deal on this setup too. Nice find!

Oh yeah - also has QAM And ATSC tuners built in

The TiVo Series 3 and the Echostar TR-50 are two such examples.

It has a single ATSC (OTA)/QAM (Clear) tuner, so yes.

Slingbox states it requires a minimum of 1.5Mbit/sec upstream for HD over Internet. One review (PCMag) stated the LAN streaming speed was around 6.5Mbit/sec.

Great price. I've been waiting for the price to drop. I agree with the poster above about it dropping more. Amazon had it for less than $250 the second week it was out. Obviously, the price target was off. I'll still hold off until it's <$200.

The Echostar TR-50 has been rebranded the "DTV Pal DVR" (From Dish Network.)

They kept promising around Thanksgiving, but now looks to be closer to Christmas.

Price will be $299-50 Rebate. Has 2 separate ATSC tuners for OTA HD and Digital Broadcast recording (you can record 2 channels at once and watch a pre-recorded show at the same time).

I kept thinking I should build my folks a Vista Home Theatre PC, but this DTVPal DVR may be the perfect thing for them (i.e. not really as complicated, error-prone, or noisy as a full-on computer in the living room.)

It really is amazing that there is such an absence of simple DVRs (i.e. ones w/no monthly fees) for over-the-air HD (really nothing since the Sony HDD-250 and HDD-500 models).

Pro-HD has 1 hybrid tuner. ATSC OTA/clear QAM or NTSC, but not both setup at the same time. Maybe a firmware update will include both together in the future.
It is a sweet device over the originals.

Deal is now dead, back up to full $299 price at Newegg. Was a great deal for those who got in on it! I forwarded this thread to my wife, she knows I want this for Xmas!
