Yeah, I jumped into this thread hoping for a PATA deal too. If you have a Frys nearby keep and eye on the sales, I've picked up a retail Seagate 500gb pata drive for about $75 recently to put in my old PS2 fat with HD Loader. I have newer motherboards in my computers that can use Sata but I still prefer having a pata boot drive due to the limitations in XP. The one computer that I tried using a Sata boot disk required a repair install and for some reason the XP disc that I slip-streamed with the sata drivers refused to see the drive so I went pack to pata for it too. |
59 bucks??? PFffff I don't pay more than 42 each (as per the Staples deal recently). I kid I kid. Great deal OP. No hassle, no nothin. 500GB for 60 dolla is nice. |
Excellent deals from a well known web e-tailer! Yeah! |
Is this really a good price? why would anyone wants 500GB for $60 when they can get 1TB for less than $100? or even 1.5TB for less than $150? Surely you are buying these to store media, like video, for any other purpose 100GB would be more than enough. But for media 500GB is very small. Even 1TB is very limiting. |
HITACHI is the best in my opinion, they bought IBM's hard drive division some time ago. There were thousands of employees there all working on HD's, for mainframe computers. I used to work there (San Jose, Cottle Road)in the 80's, the drives came back for repairs in large cooler cases, think Coleman coolers- the large metal ones. Anyone know the capacity of one of those giant drives? I was just in college doing a summer job in the warehouse. |
