To those who are already using one of these- I have read thru the previous posts about this Media Player but I have one question that is a deal breaker for me. The specifications don't mention being able to play iso's. Although some have referenced that it will? Since I have like 300 movies stored on hardrives in iso format, I need to know for sure whether it will play them from the iso format, or would I need to convert them to a different format? I'm in if it will! Thanks in advance! |
Most of the ISO's I've downloaded, I've used winrar to extract the VOB's and watch them using VLC player. So if this will play VOB's, should work fine. I've ordered one (Dell deal) but still haven't received it yet. edit: Doesn't look like this plays VOB's so you'd probably have to convert. |
I have many movies in ISOs and it plays them just fine. However, it will only play the movie, w/o access to any menus or extras. You will still have the ability to change the audio and subtitles while the movie is playing, though. |
Thats all we really need! I appreciate your response and the one above. We have 8 children and another 8 grandchildren and we are the library for DVDs. Our cabinet is full and I have made a habit of burning them to iso format so when we want to watch something, and the dvd we are looking for is somewhere else(as is nearly always the case), I can quickly burn it and we can watch it. This device looks like a far better way to go. I have no interest whatsoever in going thru those current titles and changing formats but for future Blu-Rays, HD-DVDs and DVDs, what is the best way to store them on a hardrive? ie, fast and footprint efficient while retaining video quality? Any recommendations? Thanks again! Gambit3 said:I have many movies in ISOs and it plays them just fine. However, it will only play the movie, w/o access to any menus or extras. Any recommendations? For Hi-Def, they can be stored in .mkv format, which will make a High definition disk about the size of a regular DVD. I can't really tell you the details of how it's done, but I do know it preserves the quality. |
Anyone know if you can generate a playlist of all videos and have it randomly play them one after another? |
I have DMA2100 and I would have bought this over DMA2100 because of networking headache. I was looking for a player which can play my HDV files and DMA2100 does after conversion to WMV at 15Mbps. .mkv is a huge attraction for any player. |
I could not find any details if "Optical" port (for Audio) is available. But the picture shows it looks like it has one. Can some one reply if you have one? |
Does anyone know whether this can play ISO image of HD or blu-ray discs? As far as I know, it can not. |
I have one, and you can not play iso image of bluray however you can play m2ts bluray files. |
Can you just use composite cable instead of HDMI cable? |
why on earth they didn't add a network port! I have everything store on a central NAS. I wish for TViX but can't afford it. I want a cheap solution for under $100. Otherwise, I'd go for a microPC like a Dell Studio Hybrid and run XBMC. Or hack an Apple TV So far I got a Klegg MediaShare for $25. Some HD but no MKV. Does play ISOs with menus and DVDs but no nice GUI. |
BTW, if it can play ISOs, if you have a DVD with menus in ISOs, how can it detect the main movie? Same thing if you have the VOBs extracted from the ISOs. Can it play the menu? |

Play divx? Is this a good replacement for an xbox with the Xbox Media Center installed? |
Nice find OP $99 + free shipping. Looks like I'm doing most of my BF shopping online this year. |
