Thanks for the tip! Site seems to down right now -- won't let me pick any restaurants...

Was able to get in at 11/17 9PM PST and get some certificates!

Shouldn't that be $1.50 for a 25 gc after 80% off + 25% FatCash.

Site won't allow you to click on "apply discount". Doesn't highlight it.

I guess I will try in AM

I just placed an order and the code worked fine for me. Thanks OP.

You entered the code on the same screen as the 1st page of the cart where it says "enter discount code"?

I just tried again and nothing.

Ditto. Order placed with code with no problems. Ordered $230+ worth of certificates for just under $18. Man, what a deal! I don't know how restaurant.com makes money as I imagine that have to reimburse the restaurants somehow? Also, makes for great holiday gifts! Green to you, friend.

Has anyone ever personally used a bunch of these "gift certificates" to completely pay for all food ordered?

These appear to be $10 off coupons or whatever, not gift certificates...

"Valid with minimum food purchase of $50/minimum purchase of 2 dinner entrees. PRESENT PRIOR TO ORDERING. Not valid on Holidays. Excludes Fri/Sat. Valid towards food only. Not valid during restaurant week. Valid for Main Street location only. 18% Gratuity added."

I have never been to any of the restaurants listed in my area. If there were no conditions, I would give one a try.

RIP

Yes these are coupons, not true gift certificates. But, many of them are $25 off $35, which is a great deal especially when you get the "coupon" for $1.60. You could get a $35 meal for 11.60, if you price your meal out just right. plux tax, tip of course.

I think restaurants pay restaurant.com and consider it marketing/advertising. after all, it brings customers through the door.

I have used two so far since I found out about restaurant.com (about a month ago). No problems

Think about that. Do you know how many cheapskate lowlifes would show up if you put no conditions on them? Would you as a restaurant owner want to participate in such a program that had no restrictions?

exactly..its not $25 giftcard for 1.6.. its same as like you are buying $25 off coupon for bill amount $35 (for most of the restaurant) and ofcourse 20% gratuity will be added..The one thing I didn't understand is after they add the gratuity then they calculate tax on top of that...so pls be aware of all the rules and regulations on the restaurant you are planning to buy...
But still if you consider all, you will be end up paying 50% of your total bill(if your bill is around $40)..so its not bad deal.
This is how I paid this weekend in one of the restaurant.
total bill $39 + 20% gratuity + tax - $25 gift certificate(which cost me for $3)
so for total I endup paying $24 for 3 people.

Not bad for those who eat outside like me

I have had issues with these coupons before...I purchased them for 5 different restaurants in my area, and two of them gave me a hard time about it. Both claimed that they had been convinced to try restaurant.com for a short time on a trial basis, that the trial had ended months or years before, but restaurant.com kept selling the coupons. In both cases, the restaurants begrudgingly honored the coupons because we'd made the effort to show up at their establishments, but I felt bad for them. If I'd only heard the story from 1 restaurant, I'd think it was hogwash, but the fact that I head it from two different restaurants independently gave their claims more credibility.

Again, the restaurants did honor the coupons, but it was clear that both were very unhappy that the coupons were still being printed against their will. These aren't large faceless corporations -- they're small family-owned operations.

This is similar in many respects to the old Idine company, now called Rewards Network. The difference is that RN gives the restaurant a sum of money and gets DOUBLE that back in credits, which they sell. Generally, the restaurants are in bad financial shape and need the money to keep afloat. Some, however, keep doing it because it brings in new business.

I went ahead and ordered 30 certificates from 15 different restaurants and the fruit basket company. I will be ordering fruit baskets for two people this Christmas and this is at least a way of offsetting that cost. As far as the restaurants are concerned, I have never been to any of these restaurants, but will make it a point to visit them. I make it a habit that if I go and use a coupon, and my check isn't at least triple the amount of the coupon, I return again and do not use a coupon (assuming the restaurant is worth going to...). It is unfortunate that they pre-charge the tip, usually at 15 - 18%, because I rarely tip less than 20% and when using a coupon, I always tip a little more and base it on the pre-discounted price. When they do this, it hurts the server. Yes, I could add an additional tip, but that would end up not going to the server in most cases.

Green for you OP. I would not have tried this but for this offer. 80% off, plus 25% FC makes it a deal worth taking.....I actually get my money back with the two fruit baskets, so the dining certificates are strictly a bonus.

For Fruit Baskets (and Flowers and such), click on Find Restaurants, and then scroll to bottom.

I noticed most of NEW restaurants in my area don't even have minimum purchase requirement!!! So I can just order $25 food for $2 + tip ??? Is it too good to be true??

I tend to think this is a bug. They forgot to add minimum requirement for newly added restauant.

If you leave the extra tip in cash it would definitely go to the server. If you are really broken up about the added gratuity, you can ask the server to NOT include it on the bill just be sure to let them know that you'll tip them in cash and that you'll give them 20%.

I bartend at a restaurant that takes these and even though it says on the coupon to add 18%, I never do. I would rather leave it up to the customer to decide and more often than not they give me at least 18% anyway.

I went to a place Sunday that added 16% automatically. I know I can leave more for the server, but I guess I take the hardline that if you take the decision out of my hands, then you take what you get, errr, take. They added $9 for the tip. As I commented to my SO on the walk to the car, I probably would have tipped $15 otherwise. I generally overtip on these GC/coupons to encourage the restaurants to continue accepting them.
