Ok folks, here goes, long time poacher first time poster here...

I've been shopping for a couple months for a keyless biometric deadbolt and the BioAxxis BD1 keeps popping up in reviews as the best one around. Good Housekeeping review it here.

Anyway, long story short, the BD1 is ~$300 almost everywhere. However, Overstock now has them for $109.99, thats more than a 60% discount on a product that appears, to me at least, to never go on sale.

Here is how to get the $5 discount:

1. Go to overstock through this link.

2. Search for Sku# 11371927.

3. The Free Shipping (and the $5 coupon) should automatically attach when you go to the checkout.

I hope this posting wasn't a waste of your time and that like me you'll soon be enjoying the convenience of a keyless entry (or at least the LEGAL kind of keyless entry).

Hmm, I suppose you could just replace the finger with a wooden stub with the backup key mounted on it... it would make a heck of a conversation piece...

WORKS BY JUST GOING TO OVERSTOCK.COMAS WELL

Nice post, but I have a few questions.
How many fingerprints does it recognize/store? 30. It looks like the battery should last about a year. Do the fingerprints need reprogrammed after the battery is changed?
Thx

Yeah you can just go direct to the website and search for this, but I just wanted to lay it out so it was clear how to get the $5 discount.

That's the great thing about this model and why I've been hunting for a good deal, it uses NON-VOLATILE memory to store the fingerprints so you don't lose the fingerprint scans if the battery runs out.

Ha, I can't tell if y'all are being serious about severed fingers or not. Its really a myth, here is a good quote from an article that explains it:

# THERE are plenty of myths when it comes to fingerprint scanning and those myths have gained strength by the way they have been portrayed in popular culture. # One of the most popular misconceptions is that it is possible to capture a person's fingerprints with adhesive tape and then use the "taken" print to fool a sensor lock or decryption system. # Filmmakers and writers have taken plenty of creative licence to move stories on but, in the real world, sticky-taped fingerprints will not work. # Biometrics not only requires the right fingerprints, but also a pulse and the body's electrical current to verify it. Which leads us to another myth. # I had imagined – no doubt along with many other film buffs – that biometric systems could be skirted by chopping off a victim's finger. # Wrong again. A severed finger would have no pulse and no blood flow beneath the surface of the skin, which is essential for the biometric system to operate. # Not only would the severed finger be as useful on the sensor as a piece of wood, it would also land you in jail with nothing but a bloodied digit to show for it.

These biometric gadgets are cool.
I've got a biometric garage door opener that stores 4 finger prints.
There's always that risk of the severed finger but I think it is a minimal risk to bare

I'm intrigued but wonder what happens when the bolt is not aligned with the strike plate (door not closed all the way).

I actually had the same concern, the User Manual says that when you lock it from the outside or inside it will beep with the bolt successfully extends, so I guess no beep = no lock.

The thieves might not know that the severed finger wont work for opening the door. Thats the problem - they watch movies like all of us here.

Thats a cool device though.

Thats a good point, perhaps the lock should come with a ring for your index finger that has the message "DO NOT SEVER, WILL NOT OPEN BIOMETRIC LOCK" inscribed on it.

I was thinking about that too. If you get one of these, you might want to post a reprint of the above notice (about severed fingers not working) on your front door. That would let would be burglars know it would be fruitless to lob of your pinky. Also, since this unit is 'up to 30', you could do your other 9 fingers and thumbs, and 10 toes, just for backup. If you're buying one of these, you know you can never be too safe. And if the would be burglar lops off 8 fingers, 2 thumbs, and all 10 toes? Shame on him.
