Was on front page of today's ad. Cheap way to get rid of that old junker and get new one with new ink. Possibly cheaper than buying ink.

Cheapest HP I saw on OD website was $53.95, HP D2560.

You can only apply this to any regularly priced printer by the way. You can't use it on a sale printer.

Anyone else try this and can confirm what this poster is saying?

This makes no sense to waste your time, effort and gas as most of the time HP printers will go on sale for greater then the $40 off. If you want to do anything take out the ink cartridges and give them back to OD or Staples and at least you get $3 back and then throw away the printer.

Not true. I've never seen HP's all-in-one with Wifi (like OD has on sale this week) for less than $100. OD has it on sale right now for $109. Trading in my old, broken printer and getting $40 for it, plus $15 for inks gets me the printer for $74+tax. If I'm wanting to buy a printer anyway how is it a waste of my time and gas? Particularly when you want me to waste time and gas going to OD or Staples to trade in ink and then "throw away the printer." At what point would I buy a replacement?

Be responsible throwing stuff out.

Math is a bit off
$109 - $40 = $69 - $15 = $54
and depending on how many inks this printer has, you eventually save another n x $3

Keep in mind that the ad states: Not combinable with other offers or discounts.

Therefore: YMMV

It's not a rebate, so you will immediately know if YM is V-ing or not

Stopped by the local OD yesterday hoping to snag one of those $53.95 printers. They were all out already. Oh well.

Confirmed that does not apply to sale printers, so that wifi printer is still $99. Asked to buy printer at regular price and apply $40 off -- no dice.

Math wasn't off. You can't use the sale price and the $40 deal, so I was figuring it from the regular price.

Apparently though robert10d tried that and they wouldn't let him? That's lame.

I drove to Office Depot and tried to trade in my old printer and buy a new one. Any printer that is on sale or has a mail in rebate at OD is not eligible for the $40 trade in discount. It also only applies to printers over $150. Every printer that I saw today that was in anyway decent had at least a $5 mail in rebate so it was not eligible for the $40 off. I got mad, left the store without buying anything and took my old printer with me. It's a total bait and switch. They try to get you in the store with the $40 off promise. Screw OD. They lost my business today.
