Shamlessly pilfered from sd's lilmikeysot

So for anyone who recently purchased (or received for near-free from Sprint Retentions)(hi!!) an HTC TouchPro or HTC Diamond, I thought I'd point out that monoprice has home chargers and car chargers for a buck or two, though they're most certainly not labeled "HTC" or anything like that. Since the phone charges via a mini-B 5-pin USB connection, your options are pretty wide. I just received all these today, and they all work perfectly (so far)!

Motorola V3 RAZR Car Charger - Cigarette Lighter to Mini USB Converter (works on HTC TouchPro & Diamond): $1.18 each here

USB A to mini-B 5pin cable - 6FT: $1.49 each here(charge via your computer's USB port OR charge by connecting this to the next item....)

High-Speed WALL Power to USB Female Converter (1000mah) - White: $2.06 here

For what Sprint charges for the accessories for the new HTC phones, you can get these from monoprice for, like, 95% off. For anyone not familiar with monoprice.com, they're pretty much my first and only choice (and I'm sure many SD'ers would agree) when it comes to cables. They are to cables what Meritline is to cheap, quality memory (who sold me a class 6 kingston microSDHC card for <$20 shipped to put in my TouchPro).

Shipping depends on your location and how many you buy, but is extremely reasonable. For $12 I got 3 of the USB cables, 2 car chargers and 1 wall converter all shipped.

Enjoy!

The connector on the end looks different than the one for my HTC Pro... Are u sure this is the correct one?

Surprisingly, the standard mini usb connector works fine on the Touch Pro, I just plugged mine in that way.

The proprietary plug has a few extra pins for audio, but is, if you will, backwards compatible with standard mini usb.

I don't know if this is a good deal or not (very well may be), but everyone should know that charging the mogul or Touch Pro (and probably many other HTC phones) requires only a mini-USB...despite the fact that the connection looks different.

Thanks for the heads up... Probably would have never tried it. I am looking for good appz and games for it, plus mods. I have seen them for the Diamond but not so much the Pro, yet. Any ideas?

all the apps and games that work for the diamond (that i have tried) work fine on the pro. check wmpoweruser.com they have some listed there, and also try ppcgeeks.com and check their HTC Touch Pro forum..

my only fear of items like these that aren't OEM are that they might overheat the device.

Great!! I lost the wall charger for my Tilt a while back. I have been using a 650mA wall charger for a Motorola. It charges but only when my phone is off. The mini USB cable will only charge while the phone is turned off too. I think this will help me out alot. My wife also has a wing without a wall charger. And I am picking up a couple extra USB cables too. I went with the black charger for the same price. Thanks for the post!

That's because 650mA is barely enough to run the phone, let alone charge the battery while the phone is on. The charger that comes with most HTC phones is 1000mA. If you are buying replacement chargers, make sure they are 1000mA (1A).

I often buy chargers at Meritline.com as well, when they have coupon codes for items it's pretty cheap too, and usually free shipping.

I tried using a generic car charger with USB->miniusb connection and the phone got very warm with 10 minutes. Don't have that issue with the stock wall charger. The generic car charger is rated 5V ~ 1amp and works well with a seperate BT GPS so I know that's not faulty. Odd huh?

wow, I didn't notice this after like 1 month playing with the phone. because the cable came with the phone has a totally different connector. Thanks for just telling me that they are compatible.

Edit:
Please be careful when using normal mini-usb connector on the HTC products. The HTC connector is not the same as the normal mini-usb connector, with a much thinner plate in the receptor, the normal mini-usb connector can't give a good support on the other side of the receptor's plate, while normal mini-usb receptor has a much thicker plate. So, there's a risk the tension applied to the plate might break the receptor on the HTC phone. If you really want to use, use it with the adapter that came with the phone, I highly recommend. (Break the adapter will be much cheaper to replace.) The adapter is the one to connect normal 2.5mm or 3.5mm headphone with the HTC phones.
