probably not, but YMMV. Some stores have signs saying they will only accept cash for gift cards.

What happens if I have, say $1.50 on a giftcard? A lot of my GC's have such low denominations that I don't know how to use it to buy stuff. Can the store add it up?

you can go to the AMEX website or call the # on the back of the card to get your balance....then write it down in sharpie pen on the back so you remember the exact amount.

You can do the following with low $ GC's:

Go to your cell phone providers website....pay bill. Just apply whatever is left on your GC to your cell phone bill so you $0 it out and get the money applied to something you have to pay for anyway. I've found this much easier than going into CVS and trying to buy an item for $1.32....

plus it's a hassle sometimes because if you total is more than what's on the GC, it gets denied at some terminals.

other option is to use these at gas stations.. when my balance is around 15-20 I walk into gas station and prepay exact amount remaining on card.
I am tired of the Staples visa cards that I have.. online payment is a better option though

irfan,

easy when the balance is $10-15 to buy something, the real challenge is when you've got $1.32 left. That becomes a real PITA. Like I say, of all the things I've done, the online bill pay with the cell phone has been the easiest way to -0- it out and be able to just throw it away. BTW, it is confirmed with SPRINT that you can apply just a $1 to your bill doing this.

Either online at sprint.com or over the phone choosing *4 (pay bill option).

yes, simply obtain an EXTRA CARE CARD (free to get) at the store PRIOR to doing this deal. Also be sure to save the receipt on this deal to submit for the MIR on the gas card. (tear off the $10 extra bux coupon on the bottom first)

If you sell on eBay and need to pay eBay fees, you can use the AMEX Giftcard to make a (one-time, partial) payment.

Simplest method is many self checkout kiosks allow PARTIAL PAY where in you put how much you have to pay.
I just used my Norton rebate visa cards in 1 payment.
6.80, 1.6 and 0.23 (yes 23cents) plus regular master card payment to complete the balance.
This was at Toys R US.
However Kroger, Jewel, etc. allow this.
No harm asking the cashier and they will have a screen to do that.
Just go later in night or mid day when there are lesser people in the line!

If you want to really turn this into a nice moneymaker:

1. Do the gift card deal first, get your $10 Extra Bucks the week of 11/23.

2. Then use those extra bucks to a FA/EXTRA BUCK ITEM plus manufacturer/internet printable coupons, rinse and repeat. You could turn this $10 extra buck print out in to about $15-20 in extra bucks with lots of free stuff in your bag to take home:

yes..you can at SOME STORES, however, I've found some POS systems will spit it back if the purchase amount is more than balance on the GC.

Also, to be honest, lugging 4 or 5 gift cards with $1.12 (or .32) in my wallet is a pain which is why I prefer the sit at my computer and pay bills method, then chuck it in the trash. Just my preference, do what works in your situation.

I suppose the gas rebate is one per household/address. This is one instance where having multiple CVS cards will not benefit you. You will get the $10 ECB on each card, but the gas card rebate probably will be one per household. Anybody know for sure?

By the way, another good way to use these American Express gift cards is to use it to buy a gift card at a retailer such as Target. Buy it somewhere where you shop often and their gift cards never expire.
