Danzilla said:VH2000 said:Danzilla said:Western Digital SE16 SATA 500GB from Newegg... $59.99 shipped. I understand...that you're picking on a newbie...for posting a deal on a hard drive...that is normally $70 elsewhere... |
The 32MB versus 16MB cache (I have the WD and this Seagate) is making a noticeable difference to me. Copying large files--performance is the same. But opening up frequently used applications (MS-Office, Outlook) shows a noticeable improvement. I wrote a visual basic app which starts a timer, launches a specified app, and waits until the last rendering message is handled, and prints out the result. MS Office on WD = 1.8201 seconds I don't care about other benchmarks, smenchmarks. I just care about how it affects me. |

double green for OP - good deal and a newbie. result = green for op. |
Danzilla said:Western Digital SE16 SATA 500GB from Newegg... $59.99 shipped. agreed! I would rather go with the 500GB WD from Newegg than buy a (possibly) slightly better Seagate drive from Buy.com, which has a history of scamming customers and overall treating them like sh!t. |
Great find OP, just the drive I was looking at over at Newegg, but hadn't pulled the trigger. Now tech question, my idea is to put this into a older system that runs as a server and get rid of the 4 misc drives in there (not raided or anything) However, that MB isn't sata, only IDE, so do I 1. get a sata pci card, or 2. get a pata-sata convertor. 1 makes more sense, but I'll never use that card outside of this system since everything new has sata built on. 2. could be reused to make an ide drive sata compatable in the future right? |
Good find Op Ease up on the hate Senior member... people wonder why no one posts |
might as well go big fwiw i just lost a WD500AAKS this morning to click of death. second time WD has bit me in arse. like samsung. dang pos. |
really, there are plenty of crap deals posted. no reason to waste everyones time harassing a newbie who posted a decent deal. ill take a Seagate over a WD anyday (ive gotten plenty of hardware from Buy.com with no problems on rebates or delivery, etc.) and this is Less than this Seagate drive usually is online... give it a rest. Green for OP. |
Is this drive good for the OS drive? any other 32mb cache seagate drive that's smaller? |
With Black Friday around the corner, is it a good idea to buy a HD now instead of waiting? I am guessing we can get a 750gig for $50 on BF? That's just my logic. I am not buying anything really until BF or after when they have big sales. I imagine with the bad economy, they will be having weekly specials all the way to Xmas to pad their books. |
Decent deal imo and gets my "geek" approval . May want to put "7200.11" in the title as that way most (geeky) people will know its the 32mb cache model . |
Danzilla, Thanks for trying but next time try comparing the performance of the 2 drives first before belittling other people.
