Can anyone please comment on the suitability of these drives for NAS? In the earlier version of these drives, I heard that they had issues regarding slow retrieval or incompatibility with network enclosures.

These are good drives for media storage. I've been buying them on eBay, currently they go for $169 shipped from the vendors who have dozens in stock, and with MS CashBack it's about $127.

Tried the Live.com search but only one eBay seller comes up at >$200. How does this 25% CashBack work anyhow?

I got the Antec MX-100 enclosure which every so often has a fat rebate and really like it.

haven't used Seagate Drives much, but I Think they make the maxtors I usually get.

How reliable are these? I want to put it into my antec Fusion case.

its cutting edge density. i would say you'd be naieve to use this without raid or on data you care about.

there is a damn good reason SAS drives don't come in this size for mainline storage.

maxtor drives are now seagates with less warranty. probably binned for more bad sectors to being maxtor.

it is common sense that bleeding edge is usually buggy yeah? I mean that is the assumption i've made for the last 2 centuries and it generally has not let me down.

THIS seems like a pretty well rated external enclosure, and w/active cooling maybe you can extend the life of your drive. I'm hoping it's not overkill, but w/ 1TB of data, I don't mind taking additional steps. I decided to get one.

Decent post OP, but the reviews actually talked me BACK INTO buying the 1TB Samsung HD103UJ. Very decent reviews.

Seagate admins problems with their 1.5TB.

Slashdot said:"Seagate's 1.5TB Barracuda has been available for a couple months from multiple retailers. But shortly after release, reports of random freezes appeared on several sites. The hang apparently occurs in Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows Vista when streaming video or transferring files at low speeds. After a couple of weeks of silence, Seagate has finally officially acknowledged the problem. In a response to The Tech Report, they say they're investigating the 'issue' affecting 'a small number of Barracuda 7200.11 hard drives.' Acknowledging the 'inconvenience' is a start, but most users expect at least average performance and prompt service from the capacity king of data storage."
