In case you need the camera TODAY, you can get it at Costco for $849.99. Comes with both lenses, a camera bag, and a 2gb memory card.

This was at the South San Francisco Costco on El Camino Real.

NIkon is the way to go ...Canon is dropping prices for this XSi very aggressively

all my friends that are waaaay into photography say that you can't go wrong with either Nikon or Canon...they all say that it comes down to personal preference as the performance is almost identical. personally, i went with the Canon XSi and absolutely love it...wish i would have waited a few weeks to get this deal though...the 55-250 lens goes for ~$250 alone.

btw, this XSi is VERY highly rated on all the camera review sites.

Does this make sense: "Don't buy Canon because they are dropping prices."

Well of course it does. If it aint expensive it must not be that good right...? lol I actually know people who shop like that. Just ridiculous.

Ridiculous? There is MOST often a linear relationship between price and quality. But, we come here to buck that trend. Do you buy your wife that "ain't expensive" diamond because it's just a good as "them other" diamonds?

Why would a newborn need an XSi? Start him with something he can suck on!

Hahaha...silly folks..Did I ever say "Buy Nikon, dont buy Canon"

Cmon folks grow up from your red and green flags...life is more than that...

My previous statement was my own point of view....and I said what I felt after using both..and i dont think there is anything wrong in it..

Consumer Reports has this XSi in the number 2 spot under Basic SLR's and surprisingly, Pentax is #1.. It also seems that Canon has fewer repair issues than Nikon..For a sub $1000 camera, this is a pretty good deal..

I spotted the same discount appeared on Costco.com but the kit does not come with a bag. I was going to get Nikon D90 kit from Costco. However, after I learned the d90 body is made in Thailand and lens are made in China; and got advice from a friend who is professional in photographer. Even thought he advised me to buy Nikon over Canon (he is using a Canon 5D thou); however, it is coming down to my personal choice on "made in thailand / china" vs "made in japan".

Anyhow, I am a very beginner in photographer. I think I am going with Canon Xsi for now; and going to get a better one in 2 yrs later (I do plan to buy a better / higher grade in 2010 before I take a trip to oversea).

Good post!

i think the pentax is more popular in overseas and i've always heard good things about them too but everytime i hear "pentax" i think of tampon..... sorry
also the word "tax" is very negative word to market a product name

OH~~ and i ordered XSI because of more variety of lenses i can choose and they're little cheaper than Nikon

when you get into the more expensive lenses.. nikon is known for having better wides, and canon is known for having better telephotos. look at the sidelines of any sports game.. the photographers are using canon equipment.

The 75-300mm lens doesn't have IS. I'm thinking the IS will come in handy when you're using that kind of zoom... It can be had from Amazon (link) for ~$140, so I don't think that's really a great deal.

Personally, I jumped on Canon's loyalty program and got the refurb Digital Rebel XT few months back. Love it, especially when my photos turn out better than friends' with 40D, and I'm just a noob... So are they, but they spent way more than I did. Sometimes it just really isn't the camera but the person behind it!!!

I agree with antang. You really want to buy a lens which it has IS.
