My Location: Indianapolis, IN
Online Registration Date: 9/26/2008
Service Installation Date: 10/13/2008
Rebate Submittal Date: 10/29/2008
Rebate Shipped Date: 11/10/2008

TV Package Ordered: U-200 + High Definition + 3 total receivers
High Speed Internet Ordered: Cheapest DSL (1.5mb down, 1mb up)

Total Monthly Cost: $104

Now that my service was 2 weeks old, I logged into their rebate center to see if I was eligible for the $200 Cash Back promotion yet. I was but low and behold there were two other rebates I wasn't aware of. One for a second $40 check and another for a $50 visa gift card. I called the rebate center to verify that I was indeed eligible for all three and that they wouldn't cancel each other out. She said I was. Hot dog.

Here is a direct copy and paste from my "Completed Redemptions" section of AT&T Rewards Page.

Customers who purchase new U-verse U-200, U-300, or U-400 online may be eligible to receive $200 Cash Back (3T8WE)
Reward Selected: $200 Check

Existing U-verse TV customers who purchase one of the following: HD, The Movie Package, The Sports Package, HBO, Cinemax, or HBO/Cinemax Package may be eligible for a rebate. (PCU40)
Reward Selected: $40 Check

Customers who order New U-verse TV 200+ and New HISA during specific promtional windows, will receive an additional $50 Visa Gift Card. (U50PW)
Reward Selected: $50 Visa Card

In houston i have U300 and 6mb down Uverse now paying only 90 a month....ask me how? I called in every few months and they kept offering me incentives. my last one was since i was getting dallas FSNHD though i am in houston, i called in to complain. They got me a sports package for 10 buck but gave me 14 off for 12 months. What is weird is that FSN much have messed up that week so now i get the rockets (before i got the mavs). So i canceled the sports and now i have a straight up -14 on my account hahaha. They also gave me U300 at U200 price. 20 off internet for life. And i guess other discounts. On top of that i upgraded to 10MB for a month and got the 20dollar rebate back for it so it was a free month, U400 for a first month free, and 200 Cash Back(received). GREAT DEAL....Just call them up. Don't play around with them, they actually live where you are calling so let them do their jobs. They are much nicer than Comcast's people and im sure they invested too much in installation+200 back to let you go too quickly!!

I had this service before I moved. I liked it.

Key points:
-Every channel is clear. Unlike with Comcast where you could find MTV or other channels grainy.
-Free wifi modem included. The wifi modem is brain of it so you get it anyways.
-Free DVR with u200 and up. Records 4 channels at once.
-Channel changing is fast
-Boxes are small, has HDMI, Component, etc
-No contracts
-Free install
-Uses exsisting cables in the house, no new lines needed.
-Just started to roll out whole home DVR. I moved before this started. No extra TiVo box needed if you want a second DVR in a bedroom. I think this service is free.

Yes the Total Home DVR is free - it was just a firmware upgrade. I still have to program the DVR for what I would like record on either the actual DVR or Online (they have a website to control the DVR from anywhere - works great on my blackberry).

Once a show is recorded it can be watched on any TV in the house. Very cool feature.

Service is awesome but customer service and billing suck. They never gave us any of the deals that they said, like first month free, but we keep calling back every month and they keep telling us they will make the month fee, I have only paid for 1 month for the past 4 months because all the other ones are free. The installer that came out was a jerk, but I had them come out again because they installed the modem and other wires in my baby's room, why I dont know. I will probably be switching back to cable unless they do something to change my mind.

One thing to note is to get ANY of these rebates you have to do the work yourself by logging into the reward center and claiming them. They won't send them to you just because you signed up for service.

In Dallas area, DVR is only free with U200 and up, otherwise, $15 extra per month.

Yes but once you have the DVR the THDVR (Total Home DVR) isn't an extra cost which is what he was talking about.

I was all set to sign up with them but a couple things stopped me:

$10 HD charge. We have 1 HDTV and don't pay our cable company anything more for that service.
Receiver box needed (at extra charge) for each tv in the house. We have several sets that are only used a couple times a month (like the basement). Right now our cable comes out of the wall and plugs right into the tv, we have one tv with TiVo/cable cards (taking the place of a cable box or DVR). We don't need the whole house stuff on those tvs, just the basic cable channels.

So between the HD charge and the $5 per set charges we'd have to pay an extra $30 a month. Too much nickle and diming.

Does HD mean if you buy the "HD service" for $10 a month you get the $40 back?

Yeah but while the cable company does not charge you $10 for HD service the cable company has a higher price for what you get and I found uverse is still less than cable even with that $10 HD charge included. The cable company just incorporates the HD charge into their price instead of separating it out as a choice you can choose or choose not to pay for.

Also you get $200 back which covers the HD charge for 20 months, and if the $40 back is for HD service that's 2 years of HD service that is paid for, so the HD charge is really a non-issue.

I think it really depends where you are. We now have 3 companies - Comcast, WOW and Uverse. It's been pretty competitive here. We still come out ahead with WOW (and they have excellent customer service). If we just didn't need those darn boxes for every tv with Uverse. Like for my iMac, it has a USB tv tuner hooked up to it and I just plug the coax into the tuner. I wish that were possible with Uverse.

I believe that is what qualified me for the $40 back. I was surprised to see both the $40 back and the $50 Visa card as a rebate so I'm not 100% sure exactly what I did to qualify.

I had signed up too but then cancelled. I have an amazing deal for Time Warner, $86 for DVR, HD, extra HD channels, 6Mbps internet and tax included. Uverse was going to be $110 + tax for me...two TVs, so two boxes, HD package, U300 service. I'd say if you're paying listed cable rates, Uverse is competitive. The key is to negotiate with the cable companies or Uverse to get a better rate.

I'm also concerned about picture quality. I've heard both good and bad things about Uverse.

Ugh...

U-verse is finally available in my area of Houston. I was forced to get Crapcast about 2 months ago and then a week later I started getting U-verse notices in the mail. Guess I just missed it. Now I have to wait for my Crapcast rebates.

Anywho...can anyone speak to the difference between the Uverse DVR and the Comcast DVR? The Comcast one is so horrible. I heard horror stories, but there are so many things wrong with the software that I can't think of any other company who would have put out such a poorly-designed product. It makes me angry every time I use it.
