Being the proud owner of new Sony Alpha A100K DSLR from this deal I started shopping for accessories and found the:

Tamron 18 - 200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR DI-II LD Aspherical (IF) AF Zoom Lens with Macro for $279 at Adorama..
Mfr. Part: AF014M700

This lens currently has TWO manufacturer rebates totaling $105.00. Price after rebates: $174.00 (37% off)!
The price before the rebates is good (MSRP is $400), but 37% off is worth starting a new topic. If you're QUICK you can pick the lens up at Amazon for the same price w/free shipping - but they only have 2 left in stock. Tamron is a respected lens maker in Japan. Sony owns 11% of Tamron.

$75.00 Mfr Rebate from May 1, 2008 - Jul 31, 2008

$30.00 Mfr Rebate from Jul 10, 2008 - Aug 31, 2008

Note: Manufacturer won't pay rebates unless the lens was purchased from an authorized dealer. Amazon and Adorama are both on the list.

Both rebates require original UPC and serial number cutouts.

Another word, I know Adorama is a reputable store, but a quick search found most other authorized dealers (Amazon, B&H Photo, Buydig, etc.) only advertise the $30 rebate.

The $75 rebate is advertised on pricegrabber, but the link is dead.

Be careful before you jump into the $75 rebate.

Since:

NEITHER rebate says anything about one rebate per purchase or one per customer.

Adorama clearly shows both rebates on the product page and does the math showing the $174 price.

I'm sure it's o.k. I've never had a problem with Adorama's rebate deals and there have been many over the years.

But are you sure you can find two sets of original UPC and serial number cutouts?

18-200mm vs 28-200mm

Tamron makes good lens. But I would say avoid these lens that have their mm ratio more than 3, they usually get soft pictures.

18-200mm vs 28-200mm

And macro?

looks like a good deal to me - Tamron's are decent lenses for the price if you don't want to splurge for the Canon or Nikkor's (i.e. you aren't getting paid to take pictures)...there's also the same deal for us Nikon users (yes we still exist)

Nikon deal

FWIW, the rebates go to different departments, but both require an original UPC - so it looks like this will work if the lens box has 2 UPCs.

Adorama has two rebates, would they both require original UPC?!

Also, is this the VR (vibration reduction) model for Nikon?

The lens you linked was designed to work with a 35mm (film) camera. The lens in this topic was designed to work with digital cameras only (Di-II feature). Based loosely on the Adorama description:

"Di (Digitally Integrated design)-II" is the designation Tamron puts on lenses designed for exclusive use with digital (APS-C size) SLR cameras, featuring optical systems optimized to meet the performance characteristics of digital cameras. ... By incorporating an optical design for exclusive use with digital (APS-C) SLR cameras, this high power zoom lens provides the focal length equivalent to Tamron's 28-300mm (when converted to a 35mm format).

So for $124.05 more you're getting 100mm more focal length and the ability to use your flash:

Please Note: This lens will not work with the on camera flash of Sony DSLR's.

Looks like they pull all the $75 rebate off their site. Now all the Tamron 18-200 lens are showing the $30 rebate only. Now I am debating if I should send in the $75 rebate and skip the $30 rebate?

alert mods

Just a heads up, all $70 rebate forms for different mounts are removed on Adorama website.

Good luck everyone.

I can scan the form and save as pdf file. But I don't know how to host it somewhere to share.
