It is mentioned to have a 3 years warranty on the product page at OfficeDespot but warranty card in the box says limited warranty 1 year. You need to register your product at MSI Notebook Limited Warranty Information to get the 3 year limited warranty.

So it turns out that all the info needed for the warranty registration is on a sticker on the outside of the black box (what a shock). As noted above, the Model Number is 9S7-168324-029. Once you fill that in on the MSI product warranty site, it auto-selects the A6000 in the next pull-down menu. The kicker, which seems ridiculous to me, is that after completing the online registration, you then have to print a copy and mail it to them along with the original invoice. I guess it's more money for them to make it a PITA for us to register for warranty coverage. Have to mail it in within 30 days of purchase.

1. What edition of Windows 7 does the laptop come with?

2. When I opened the box, the warranty card says that it is covered under only a 1 year warranty. WTF?
A: When you register the laptop online through MSI's website it will set it to 3 year warranty. (This has been verified by several users here) You must register with in 30 days of purchase.

3. Is the screen LED-backlit?
A: Yes.

4. My webcam does not work?
A: You must press a button on the upper right side of the laptop, near the power button. This will turn it on.

5. Does it support Bluetooth, since it shows up in my device manager and shows a Bluetooth wizard at start up?
A: NO.

6. Does the HDMI support full native 1080P (1920x1080) resolution?
A: Yes, press Windows Key + P until it is set to "Projector Only". Voila!

7. How do I upgrade to Windows 7 64bit to take advantage of 4GB RAM?

If synaptics driver for touchpad is not working for you, try the sentelic driver from this link. It works fine for me and I'm able to do the vertical scroll as well as disable the touchpad while typing which has stopped my cursor from jumping.

Problems Burning DVDs?

I called MSI about me not being able to successfully burn DVDs. I was told to download the chip set drivers from their website which i did.

I extracted the zip file and ran the setup (cr_chipset_7_nb.zip is the file you want to download). I still have the original 32bit version. Should work for 64 bit as well ?

The setup first uninstalls the existing drivers. You will be asked reboot.

Upon reboot, run the setup again

Reboot one more time.

Run your recovery tool again to burn your DVDs, which i did. It did it succesfully.

PS : I verified that by checking the DVD in another computer. All good.

Quick guide on upgrading your laptop to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Quick Notes

- Make sure the laptop is connected to the AC power adapter. IE: Not running on the battery.
- Obtain a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit DVD disc (Either Full or Upgrade, doesn't matter). If you do not have a disc you may download one from the link HERE. - To burn the ISO image to a blank DVD. On Windows 7 simply right click the ISO file, select Open With and finally Windows Disc Image Burner. If you are on XP/2000/Vista then download the free program ImgBurn. Make sure to burn at 8X just be safe.
Installing Windows 7 64-Bit (Clean Install):
1. Insert the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit DVD and restart the computer
2. Press any key when you see "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD"
3. Click Next
4. Click on Install Now
5. Click "I Accept" > Next
6. Click "Custom (Advanced)"
7. Now you should see the Hard Drive information screen, with 3 partitions (BIOS_RVY, OS_Install, DATA):
a) First, click on "Drive Options" on the lower right.
b) Select the 'OS_Install' Partition and click "Delete" at the bottom > OK.
c) Select the 'DATA' Partition and click "Delete" at the bottom > OK.
d) Now select the 'Unallocated Space' Partition > New > Apply > OK
e) Now the Primary (biggest) partition should be selected by default. Hit Next.
f) Enter user name as desired > Next
8) Enter password IF desired > Next
9) LEAVE THE CD KEY BLANK HERE, and hit Next
10) Use Recommended Settings
11) Adjust Time Zone to your local area > Next
23) Join your wireless network or just Skip if you don't have one
24) Windows 7 should now be installed!

Activating Windows (Takes 6-10 minutes)
1) Start Menu > Right Click 'Computer' and select "Properties"
2) Under the 'Windows Activation' tab select "Change product key"
3) Enter product key from under the laptop > Next. (Take your time... don't flip over the laptop back and forth too quickly or it may reduce the reliability of your hard drive.)
4) For SOME it will activate just fine through the online method. For me, it did not activate and I used the downloaded image from Microsoft. Simply click "Activate by phone" and follow the instructions. You can just key in the numbers on the phones touch pad since the voice recognition sucks. Once you get to the part where you are entering what the robot is instructing, just press the number 2 instead of having to say "Continue". When it asks how many PC's this key has been installed on... say "ONE". Voila it is now activated 100%.

Proper 64-Bit Drivers Rule of thumb.
Anytime you install a driver/application in Windows Vista/7 make sure to right click the executable and select "Run as administrator".

1) Go to Start Menu > All Programs > Windows Update > Select Optional Updates > Just update the Atheros AR9285 Wireless LAN driver. (REBOOT after install)
2) Latest nVidia Chipset Driver - Link Do not install Forceware Network Access Manager when it pops up. (REBOOT after install)
3) Latest nVidia Video Driver - LINK (REBOOT after install)
4) Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver - Link (REBOOT after install)
- Now we must tweak the Realtek HD audio. Down by the time clock on the lower right of the screen should be an orange speaker icon. Double click it. Go to the "Sound Effects' tab and check "Loudness Equalization". Now go to the Microphone tab and for 'Recording Volume' move the slider over to about 75-80% of the way, otherwise your mic will be pretty much useless. Now adjust the volume using Windows volume control (the White speaker), otherwise if set too high I notice the volume distorts but if you put it around halfwayish it sounds great.

5) Latest Keyboard Shortcut App - LINK (P1/Eco buttons should now work)

6) If you play 3D games, update all your DirectX versions with one simple tool. - LINK Update: I tested the memory card reader and it worked out the box. Once you put in a memory card it will automatically install the drivers and simply work. Update 2: I installed Skype and the cam, mic and sound worked perfectly. Just make sure to press the Camera button near the power button to turn it on each time. Update 3: I have only used the touchpad for about 15 mins total; had no skipping issues. I hate touchpads so I am using a USB optical gaming mouse. No need to install the outdated drivers on the CD. Most of the drivers on the MSI site are outdated or not for this particular laptop.
